Thirty years ago Colin Brickell attended an interview with Chairman Warren Haskins for a Plantman at the original Haskins Garden Centre at Tricketts Cross in Ferndown. The former Summerbee Secondary School pupil had already trained in horticulture with Bournemouth Parks Department. Over the three decades at Haskins he has become a crucial member of the buying team based at the head office at Longham. As the company expanded, Colin, from Bournemouth, took on the role as Group Plant Buyer responsible for the selection and purchase of a wide variety of plants from UK and European nurseries and growers with a budget exceeding £3.5 million.

To celebrate Colin’s success, Directors, including Chairman Warren Haskins and Julian Winfield the Chief Executive, went for a celebration lunch and was presented with £300 worth of gift vouchers.

Warren Haskins said: “When Colin joined the company it employed less than 50 people. We now have a payroll of 550 people. In that time we have relocated its Ferndown Centre to the current site at Longham, and expanded to own four prime garden centres in southern England. We thank Colin for his long and loyal service.”
