Farewell to Roundstone Garden Centre

Members who have attended the informal Roundstone Garden Centre café club over several decades were invited for free tea, coffee and snacks to commemorate the closing of the restaurant and original garden centre at Roundstone, near Worthing, on 6 January. It was an opportunity for General Manager Kirsty Goble to thank them for being loyal customers over the years and to reassure them that they will be as welcome at the new £12 million garden centre that is due to open in March.

“We will miss so many of our friendly customers until the new centre opens,” said Kirsty Goble. “Over the coming weeks we will start to install over £800,000 worth of plants, sundries, and other products into the centre, over 3000 items of crockery for the new 460 seat restaurant and will ensure that we also install the same friendly approach we have always maintained in customer service.”

Whilst bulldozers demolish the original garden centre to complete the 500 space car park, training of the 50 additional retail and catering staff will take place within the recently constructed centre next door.

One feature that cannot be saved is the fish pond and rockery. Sue Ross, who has worked at the centre for 27 years, said that many parents who brought their children to see the fish, remember visiting the feature when they were children.

“It’s an end of an era for many but I’m sure all of our friends will enjoy visiting us in the fantastic new centre that will have much better facilities for everyone to enjoy,” admitted Sue.
