Garden Centre Scoops Top Regional Awards

Staff at the Haskins Garden Centre at Longham, Dorset have been celebrating their success following an award ceremony hosted at Biggin Hill by the South Thames division of the Garden Centres Association. Out of 36 garden centres in the region, Haskins General Manager Terry Head and his team scooped the top awards for Best Garden Centre and Best Restaurant.

They also returned with 13 other best of category awards including best catering, indoor and outdoor living, bedding and houseplant, and best garden centre staff. The group’s centres near Crawley, Worthing and Southampton also received merit awards.

Terry Head said that the team were delighted to rate so highly in the judging: “The GCA competition ensures that garden centres continue to raise the benchmark in horticultural retail. We are judged not only by the GCA auditors but more importantly our customers who expect high standards of service and a quality product range.”

Warren Haskins, Chairman of Haskins Garden Centres, whose great grandfather founded the business as a nursery in Poole in 1882, said that he was particularly delighted that the new restaurant was not only judged as the best, but the award of best catering was also attributed to the staff who have made the £2.5m investment a popular venue.

The team will now have to wait to see if they beat the top garden centres from the 8 regions to win the national title following a second round of audits by the association that can be spring upon the centres at anytime over the next few months.
