Garden Centre Gains Merit Awards

Staff at the Haskins Garden Centre at West End, Southampton have been celebrating their success following an award ceremony hosted at Biggin Hill by the South Thames division of the Garden Centres Association. Out of 36 garden centres in the region, the team were presented seven Merit Awards. These certificates were issued by a team of auditors for Customer Service Points. Garden Centre Staff, Entrance, Growing Media, Outdoor Living, Outdoor Ornamentation and for the Children’s Play Area.

General Manager Matt Hill said that the team were delighted to rate so highly in the judging: “The GCA competition ensures that garden centres continue to raise the benchmark in horticultural retail. We are judged not only by the GCA auditors but more importantly our customers who expect high standards of service and a quality product range.”

The site, that was originally the Swan Garden Centre, was acquired by the £30 million turnover Haskins Garden Centre group in 1991 and redeveloped 1996. It now employs over 100 full and part time personnel.
