Vegetables Presentation Fundraises for Jubilee Sailing Trust

A presentation entitled Bring Your Vegetables To Life by Rosie Yeomans, a regular contributor to BBC Radio 4’s Gardeners Question Time, has raised funds to enable more people with a range of disabilities to participate on the tall ships owned by the Jubilee Sailing Trust.

Those who attended the special evening hosted free by the Haskins Garden Centre at West End, Southampton were fascinated by the advice and tips offered by Rosie, a lecturer at Sparsholt College.

The effect that different soils have on vegetables, combined with the importance of adding nutrients by way of creating a sustainable method of composting were key features within the presentation. Recommendations were also made. The audience was shown the benefits of using deep beds to make growing easier. They were also encouraged to not only rotate what vegetables were planted in an area but to also offer diversity to nature by introducing boarders of herbs and other plants to generate a better eco system. There was also an insight into the variety of trials held by Rosie and her team for Gardener’s Question Time.
