LET THEM EAT CAKE
Tasting launches Haskins new cake and patisserie display
Just 16 months since the Haskins Garden Centre at Longham opened its new £2.5m restaurant, a further £80,000 has been invested to create a 12m long cakes, traybakes and patisserie on display. Haskins Chief Executive Julian Winfield and Head Chef Kevin Ramsell launched the new feature by handing out samples to customers.
“Since opening the new restaurant we have found that combined sales of tea and coffee with cakes and patisseries have contributed around 54% of the £1.8m turnover,” said Julian Winfield. “You could say that we want a larger slice of the market!”
Having doubled the display area, Kevin Ramsell and his team now plan to bake one of the largest selections in the south. 80% of all cakes and patisseries will be created by the catering team who will work behind the glass counters so that customers can watch the final preparations including filling and piping.
“Everyone within the catering team has become serious about cakes in the same way they have successfully developed the other popular serveries that show the theatre of preparation,” said Julian Winfield. |
