Britney Designs Winning Melanoma
Cancer Warning Poster

A Pupil from Burstow Primary School has won a competition to design a poster warning of the danger of melanoma cancer. Britney Westlake, 9 from Horley, was the winner of the competition created and sponsored by the Haskins Snowhill Garden Centre as part of the Myfanwy Townsend Melanoma Research Fund awareness week.

The Charity's founder, Harry Townsend was joined by Anna Mills, one of the garden centre’s Customer Service team, to present Britney her £20 prize at the school.

“We were very impressed with Britney’s poster that not only lists how to protect yourself from the harmful suns rays, but also warns of the risk of dehydration,” said Harry Townsend. “But it does remind us all not to stop having fun in the sun.”

The poster is now on display at the garden centre to remind customers of the importance of protecting themselves from the dangers of Melanoma, that Harry, a former assistant curator at the world famous Kew Gardens, calls the Gardener’s cancer. It now affects 1 in 50 and is the most common cancer amongst young people.

Schools in the region are being encouraged to joint the competition to grow the highest Sunflower by 10th September.

Anyone wishing to donate or support the important projects funded by the charity can visit www.melanoma-fund.co.uk or contact Harry Townsend on 01342 322508
