Blooming Kern Appeal Judges Prepare

While waiting to judge the Ferndown In Bloom competition entries from the 19 July, Tim and Sue Hamlett have been encouraging residential and commercial property owners in the area to enter one of the 4 main categories. Especially as winners can win £100 worth of vouchers provided by the Haskins Garden Centre at Longham, which has sponsored the annual competition since 1992.

The Hamletts say that winning is all about kerb appeal as only front residential gardens are judged. Content and colour, perhaps a garden which includes a feature or a theme, will certainly gain points.

“Anyone who has received complimentary comments on their front garden from neighbours or passers by should certainly consider entering. We will be making allowances this year for the later germination of plants as we had a harsh winter and a cold spring,” said Sue, who is Chairman of the West Moors Horticultural Society and a previous Ferndown in Bloom Winner.

Tim also confirms that parched lawns will not be held against entrants: “For example we would not give extra marks for a dark green lawn and subtract for a brown lawn where people have conserved water. We forgive many imperfections!”

The Hamletts say that they are delighted to have the opportunity to support the competition designed encourage people to take pride in their gardens and shows appreciation to the growing number of property owners who add colour to the urban environment.

Entry forms are available from the Haskins Garden Centre or download now.
