Ferndown in Bloom 2011 Contest Launch

This year’s Ferndown In Bloom competition to find the homes and commercial properties with the most flower power in Ferndown has been officially launched by committee members.

This year the categories available to enter are Best Front Garden, Best Business, Retail or Public House with trophies from the Ferndown Chamber of Commerce, Best Residential Home or Community Garden, Best Park home Garden or Patio, Best Hanging Basket, Best Community Involvement, Best Photo of Flora and Fauna and the Tallest Sunflower Competition.

Over £500 worth of vouchers have been allocated as prizes including the top prize of £100 to go to the overall Ferndown In Bloom champion. Closing date for all entries will be 9 July and judging will take place during the last week of July, except for the Sunflower measuring on the 10 September.

Chairman Steve Lugg and fellow volunteer committee members were joined by Terry Head, General Manager of Haskins Garden Centre, which has been main sponsor for the annual event since 1992, to launch the competition.

"We have expanded the competition categories to better accommodate not only the variety of residential properties but to encourage our local businesses to consider adding flower power!” said Steve Lugg. “Ferndown takes great pride in its reputation as a green and pleasant place to live and work. The competition is set to not only inspire but also show appreciation to the growing number of property owners who add colour to our environment.”

Entry forms are available from the Haskins Garden Centre and will be distributed throughout the Ferndown area over the coming months. The Haskins Restaurant will provide the venue for the award ceremony on the evening of 28 September.
