Fantastic! With not knowing what the Covid-19 situation is going to be like in the coming months this is fantastic news for those (like me) who like to be organised and prep early. Looking to grow some unusual fruit this year? Why not give these new generation Honeyberries and Japanese Wineberries a go?

The large elliptical Honeyberries are similar in colour and taste to blueberries, but with a slight aftertaste of honey. They're high in antioxidants and loaded with vitamin C and will retain their taste and shape even if frozen. Unlike blueberries, they'll grow in any rich fertile soil.

The Japanese Wineberries turn crimson when fully ripe and have an unusual aromatic sweet-yet-tart taste. They're ideal for eating fresh or in pies, desserts and jellies. A versatile plant, they offer something in each season and can be used as an ornamental climber.

Did you know that you can grow hyacinth bulbs in water on a window ledge?

They make a great living bouquet and last longer than cut flowers. They smell amazing too!

Here's the technical bit. For most hyacinths, you’ll see the same cultivar is offered for sale as two types: Prepared and Spring Flowering.

Prepared bulbs are for flowering at Christmas time, or just after, depending on when you plant. These have been specially treated with heat to initiate the earlier display. Plant in September if you want blooms for Christmas flowering, as they require 10-12 weeks for good root and shoot development.

Bulbs sold for spring flowering are perfect for planting in borders and containers outdoors, but can also be grown initially outside and bought into the house in bloom in spring. Plant in early autumn for flowering in March and April.

September is a great time to lay new turf, especially if you're patching areas that didn't make it through the summer.

Our turf usually arrives on a Thursday in time for the weekend, whilst the weather holds.
