With their distinct colourful markings, Goldfinches are an easy spot in the garden at this time of year!

Often seen in loose colonies on seed producing trees, Goldfinches love to eat insects too and are considered a 'gardener's friend'.

With the seasons moving on, their natural food becomes scarce so why not help them through the colder months with some mealworms, or their favourite black nyger seeds

There's still plenty of interest to be found in the garden during the winter!

Japanese quince produce colourful flowers during this time, whilst the yellow flowers of Chimonanthus produce an intoxicating sweet scent!

Hellebores, Witch Hazels, dogwoods and golden conifers can all help provide a backdrop of colour. Not only do these plants keep the garden going during this season, they also help beat those winter blues!

Healthier habits promote a healthier lifestyle, so why not plan for the year ahead and grow your own fruit?

We love growing raspberries and loganberries, as they're ideal for pies, jam making and eating fresh!

What will you grow this year??

The chaffinch is one of the most widespread and abundant birds in Britain and Ireland.

Its patterned plumage helps it to blend in when feeding on the ground and it becomes most obvious when it flies, revealing a flash of white on the wings and white outer tail feathers.

It does not feed openly on bird feeders - preferring to hop about under the bird table or a hedge instead. You'll usually hear them before you see them, with their loud song and varied calls.

If you'd like to attract these and other birds to your garden, place feeders higher up in trees or in tall shrubs so as to offer perches and some protection from predators and they'll be constantly back all season long 🐦🐦🐦

With their elegant white flowers, the Peace Lily (Spathiphyllum) is a great choice for a houseplant and super easy to look after 🌿🌿😊

There are many varieties available, each with their own unique qualities, such as the size of the flowers and the size or shape of the leaves. All of them are lush, blooming plants, with a long life expectancy.

Preferring a reasonably warm room out of direct sunlight, the plants prefer a damp soil. Our recommendation is to add a large amount of water roughly once a week and add a feed to that water once a month.

Super easy to maintain, flowers will bloom for around four to ten weeks. This is followed by a rest period of a couple of weeks to create new buds. During the rest period, it's a good time to cut away the old (green) flowers, along with their stems. To aid in the flowering process, it may help to keep the plant temporarily drier and set it in a slightly cooler place.

Did you know that they are also known as the β€˜spoon’ or β€˜flag’ plant, and originate from Colombia and Venezuela? They were first introduced into Europe around 1870!
