Revitalise your lawn this spring
March 28, 2025

Spring is here, and it’s the ideal time to revitalize your lawn.
These days, our lawns are so much more than just grass – they’re where we play, relax, and entertain. To keep them looking great, let’s give them some much-needed post-winter attention.
Here’s our simple lawn maintenance plan:
- Fix bare spots and damaged areas with grass seed or new turf. If you are applying seed, sow a wider area to help blend the colour of the new seed into your lawn. Water in and protect from birds and pets until established, then apply a feed from mid-April into late May.
- If your lawn feels ‘springy’ then it’s time to scarify. Use a spring-tine rake to remove thatch, moss and any other dead material.
- If needed, aerate your lawn to improve drainage, especially if it gets waterlogged. A simple spiking with a garden fork can work wonders to alleviate soil compaction and help prevent the build-up of moss.
- Regular mowing to a medium height will keep your lawn looking thick and lush. Avoid the temptation to cut too short as this weakens the grass.
- Compost your grass clippings with lots of shredded paper, leaves or straw in your compost heap to help it breakdown faster.
- Applying a lawn feed will give your grass a much-needed boost after the dark days of winter, allowing it thicken-up and stay healthy.
- Wherever possible, water your lawn through extended dry spells, preferably with collected rainwater.
Hopefully, you would have had a chance to inspect or service your mower between the spring showers. The first cut should always be slightly higher than normal with subsequent cuts reduced in height over the following weeks.
By following our advice, your lawn should become ready to perform its duties over the summer months, with the added excuse to get outside and enjoy some spring sunshine and fresh air.
