Bulb Planting Made Easy

Bulb planting made easy

September to November are the perfect months to begin planting your spring flowering bulbs.

Planting in autumn gives time for your bulbs to establish so that they can flower at the right time the following spring.

It may not seem like much is going on above ground, but under the surface they will be establishing a strong root system so that when the temperatures drop, they can take full advantage of the cold exposure and begin the hormonal changes needed to form their flowers.

Follow this handy guide to ensure your spring garden flourishes!

Looking for a quick practice run?

The end of summer brings the opportunity to enjoy autumn flowering crocus. Both Colchicums and Saffron Crocus will flourish in a sheltered spot with late afternoon autumn sun.

Pop a few into a pot now and they’ll bloom in a couple of weeks!

Did you know?

As a rule of thumb, the earlier in the year a bulb flowers, the earlier they should be planted.

You can make planting into lawns and borders easier by taking advantage of autumn rains that soften the ground.
